How Does Juvederm Volbella Work?
Volbella is a gel that contains hyaluronic acid, which adds volume to your lips and fills fine lines and wrinkles. The hyaluronic acid attracts and retains moisture, giving your mouth added contouring and definition.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance made naturally by the body, though production slows as you age. This moisturizing sugar gives your face and lips a youthful, plump appearance. Cosmetic companies produce hyaluronic acid synthetically and blend it with a gel for use as a facial filler.
Is a Juvederm Volbella Treatment Painful?
Volbella contains lidocaine, which lessens the pain at the injection site. Your provider will use a fine gauge syringe to administer the treatment, and Volbella’s smooth consistency makes injecting it easy and effortless, decreasing any discomfort during this procedure. If you’re more comfortable adding an additional topical numbing via ice or topical anesthetic, we can discuss this during your consultation.
Will My Volbella Treatment Cause Swelling?
As with all injectables, you may experience minor swelling and slight redness post-injection. Some bruising may also develop at the injection site. These side effects, if present at all, should last less than a week. You can cover skin discolorations with makeup as soon as 12 hours after the procedure.
When Can I Return to My Everyday Activities?
You can go back to your everyday life right after a Volbella treatment, though you shouldn’t participate in any intense activity or drink alcohol for 24 hours post-injection. You should also avoid excessive heat like the kind you would experience in a sauna. Be sure to protect yourself from the sun through shade and sunscreen following a Volbella treatment as well.
How is Juvederm Volbella Different from Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus?
While Juvederm Volbella, Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus are all hyaluronic acid-based gels, Juvederm Volbella is formulated with Vycross technology, which makes its consistency softer and smoother. The difference between the three products comes down to cross-linking, which is the process of chemically binding the hyaluronic acid’s individual chains to transform them into a gel that offers lasting results. With cross-linking, the makers of Juvederm’s cosmetic fillers were able to change each product’s consistency to deliver treatments that are more specialized.
What Makes Juvederm Volbella Different from Other Lip Fillers Like Restylane Silk?
Both fillers give you fuller-looking lips and decrease the appearance of fine lines around your mouth. However, Volbella lasts longer than other lip fillers like Resylane Silk. Volbella’s effects are noticeable for as long as a year, while Silk’s last about six months. Juvederm Volbella is one of the best options when it comes to adding volume to lips. Silk works better for smoothing out lips and fine lines.
How is Volbella Administered?
Your provider will clean your face before administering Volbella. He or she will then mark the injection points and use an extremely small needle to inject the Volbella into the treatment areas. Each injection will only take a few seconds to complete. Since Volbella also contains lidocaine, the substance will numb the areas it encounters as it moves through your skin. Administering Volbella requires special training, so be sure to choose a practice with experienced specialists.
Will I Receive Anesthesia Prior to Juvederm Volbella?
You can request a topical anesthetic to decrease the discomfort of the Juvederm Volbella procedure. Once the cream is applied, it will need to remain on your skin for 30 to 40 minutes before you receive the injection. Along with decreasing your discomfort, the cream may also help prevent bruising. Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen before your injection since these medications can cause additional bruising or increase bleeding. Instead, discuss other pain-relieving options with your medical aesthetic specialist beforehand.
What Should I Expect After My Lip Treatment with Juvederm Volbella?
You’ll notice an immediate difference as the gel makes your skin look smoother. Juvederm Volbella works by attracting some of your body’s natural moisture to the injection site, which can cause swelling. This is a side effect you should expect to occur. Juvederm has often been shown to cause a little less swelling than other fillers. Your lips may initially appear overly puffy, but initial swelling with subside after a day or two, and your final results will be fully noticeable after about one week. If you have a major social event coming up, be sure to give your body enough time to heal from the injection. After about a week, you will return to our practice for a follow-up appointment to ensure your results are as expected and, if necessary, additional filler may be added to improve your results.
What are the Potential Side-Effects of Volbella?
You can use a small ice pack following the treatment if you experience discomfort. Even though it may feel good, avoid massaging the lip area as it will cause the filler to move around. If needed, you may apply a lip moisturizer. Irritation or redness may occur around the injection sites. This can be hidden through makeup. These side effects should disappear in just three to four days.
The side effects of Juvederm Volbella are typically mild, with swelling and redness being the most common. You could also experience slight itching or inflammation.
How Long Does Volbella Last?
Juvederm Volbella lasts for up to a year, but its longevity can be affected by your age, diet and skin care habits. Your skin’s overall condition will also affect the filler’s longevity.
Who is a Good Candidate for Juvederm Volbella?
If you have slight or moderate wrinkles and lines around your lips and nose, you could be a candidate for Volbella. You are also a good candidate if you are physically healthy, have realistic expectations of what cosmetic treatments can do and have a positive attitude about fillers in general. If you have a medical condition like diabetes or a blood-clotting disorder, you may not be a candidate for the procedure.
Some people are born with thin lips, while others see their lips thin out as they age. A person’s lips can also become asymmetrical. Volbella helps with all of these lip concerns for patients 21 and older who are not allergic to any of the ingredients of the treatment or have other health contraindications to treatment.
Where Can I Find Juvederm Volbella Before and After Pictures?
The internet makes it easy to view before and after pictures of other people’s Volbella treatments. You can find these pictures on Realself.com and the Juvederm website . These photos should give you a good idea of how well the treatment works. Keep in mind that this is a popular cosmetic procedure because of its subtle results. When you get a Volbella treatment, people are likely to notice that you look refreshed. They may not, however, be able to tell that you took advantage of today’s cosmetic technology.
WHAT IS THE COST OF A VOLBELLA TREATMENT? IS IT AFFORDABLE?
Cost is highly dependent upon the amount of syringes needed to provide the best outcome. Every patient has a different desire on the amount of lip volume they want to achieve. So prospective patients will have a better idea of the total Volbella price once they schedule a consultation with a provider. Once a treatment is mapped out, it will be much easier to calculate the cost. Keep in mind that financial options do exist that provide more financially-feasible payment methods. Our practice also accepts all major credit cards.
