Bioidentical Hormone Replacement
Dr. Lee prefers using bioidentical hormone replacement or natural hormones instead of synthetic hormones that are often prescribed by physicians. There are few physicians using bioidentical hormones in the Rio Grande Valley but they are commonly used in larger metropolitan areas. Bioidentical hormones are identical to those hormones produced in our body. Thus Dr. Lee likes to call them “human identical hormones.” Many of them are FDA approved but there are some that are compounded by accredited pharmacies that are made to order by a physician. They are usually compounded with specific amounts of hormone depending on the patients needs. The hormones may be estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, and cortisol. He uses creams and pellets.
Since completing residency training in both family medicine and ob/gyn, he is well equipped in managing hormones that effect the entire body. He has also received training from Dr. Erika Schwartz. She is a leading expert in bioidentical hormone therapy out of New York City.
Not only do woman that are suffering from menopause symptoms greatly benefit from bioidentical hormone replacement, but also premenopausal women experiencing symptoms of lack of energy, weight changes, depression, loss of libido, and other symptoms can benefit as well.
At our office, we evaluate each patient individually to assess them for the specific hormones they may be deficient in and then prescribe the hormones they need. Our goal is to provide patients with healthy lifestyles and personal well-being.
